Mystery Cowl KAL 2023

Celebrate the end of 2023 with my annual Mystery Cowl Knit Along!

I am so excited for the 2023-2024 Mystery Cowl Knit-Along!

This year's cowl theme is luxe knitting and will be single-color sampler-style cowl in CASHMERE! This project is all about working up classic knitted textures in luxurious yarn - preferably in your favorite color. Can you say "Happy Knitting!"?!

The cowl is worked seamlessly in the round and features mostly knit & purl textures, a few sections with eyelets, as well as one mini-cable section (so cute!). I would suggest this project for advanced beginner knitters. As always, I will be providing tutorial videos for many of the techniques in the project.

How does the mystery cowl KAL work? I've designed a gorgeous cowl and you have no idea what it looks like! Beginning on December 26th and ending on January 1st, I will release daily clues that contain a new section of the pattern. There will be about 12-16 rounds of knitting per clue. To receive the updates, purchase the pattern on Ravelry and check back every day for the new clue. You can knit at your own pace or try to work each clue on the day it's released. Join in on the fun in my Ravelry Group and then be sure to register for the Zoom Cowl Show-Off and New Year's Party after the Knit-Along.

The finished measurements of the cowl are approximately 23" x 12"/58 cm x 30 cm

Materials needed:

Needles: US 6 (4 mm) 24”/60 cm circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 21 sts and 30 rounds = 4"/10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round.

Other Materials: stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle, row counter (if desired).

Yarn: 250 yards of 1 color of DK weight (CYCA #3) yarn.

My suggestions for choosing a color: solid color, very subtle tonal color, or ombre or subtle self-stripe yarns will work best for this design. Very dark colors (i.e. black or navy) and "jumpy" multicolor yarns will not show the pattern stitches as clearly. I made two cowls in two luxurious yarns:

Clinton Hill Cashmere "Bespoke DK" (2 balls)

100% Cashmere made in Italy; 125 yds/50g ball

Yarn Snob Yarns "A Delicious DK" (1 skein)

20% Cashmere and 80% Superwash Merino Wool; 273 yds/100g ball.

What were the last three Mystery Cowls like?

Join me for some happy knitting as we end 2023 and welcome 2024 with a luxurious and beautiful new cowl!
