Surreal times call for calming and luxurious knits. The Surrealist Cowl is simple textural project and a lusciously soft layering piece with fabulous drape. The expanding and contracting checkerboard patterns showcase many types of yarns beautifully – from self-stripe to hand dyed to solids and tweeds.
Construction Details
The Surrealist Cowl is worked in the round. Pattern is written as well as charted – knit according to preference.
Techniques Necessary

- Joining in the round
- Knit and Purl
- Bind off
Size options: One size
Finished Measurements: 24” circumference x 13” depth
Suggested Yarn: 320 yards of DK weight (CYCA #3) yarn.
Gauge: 20 stitches and 32 rounds = 4” in k3 p3 checkerboard stitch.
Needle: US 8 (5 mm) 24” circular needle or size needed for gauge. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Additional materials: stitch marker, tapestry needle.
