The New Baby Sweater is a sweet and simple garter stitch cardigan that knits up quickly and is an adorable gift for a new baby.
Construction Details
This sweater is worked in one piece beginning at the bottom of the back, then over the shoulders, and down to the bottom of each front. The sweater is then seamed at the sides and sleeves.
Techniques Necessary
• Cast on
• Knitted cast on
• Increasing (m1, yo)
• Decreasing (k2tog)
• Bind off
• Separating for neck
Baby size 3-6 months
Finished Measurements:
Finished Width: 9.25”
Finished Length: 9.5”
Yarn: Worsted weight (CYCA #4) 300 yards
Suggested Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted (100% superwash wool, 225 yards/113g ball). 2 balls
Gauge: 19 stitches and 37 rows = 4” in garter stitch on size 6 (4.0 mm) needles.
Needle: US 6 (4 mm) 24” circular needle. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Additional materials: three half-inch buttons and a size “G” crochet hook to edge neck (if desired).
