Coloring in the Lines

The Coloring in the Lines Brioche Hat is cute, cozy, and slouchy. A perfect topper to show off your awesome basic brioche skills all while using two gorgeous colors of heavy worsted weight yarn. The hat is sized for adult small, medium, and large and is sure to be a favorite for all the lucky recipients (yourself included!). Fold the brim of the hat up to expose the opposing color stripes and have a more fitted toque, or leave the brim down for a slouchy cap.
Construction Details:
The Coloring in the Lines Brioche Hat is worked in the round from the brim towards the crown. Larger needles are used for the brim and crown, while the smaller size needle is used to work the brioche. DPN are suggested for the crown.
Skills Required: Cast on, Joining in the round, Knit/Purl, Brioche (sl1yo, brk, brp), Decreasing (k2tog), Working with DPN (or preferred small circumference knitting technique)
Sizes: Adult Small (Adult Medium, Adult Large)
Finished measurements: 18.5 (20, 22)”/47 (51, 56) cm circumference and 12”/30 cm depth.
Gauge: 13 sts and 38 rounds = 4”/10 cm in two color circular brioche using size needle to obtain gauge.
Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) 16”/40 cm circular needle or size needed for gauge. US 9 (5.5 mm) 16”/40 cm circular needle and DPN or two sizes larger than needle for gauge for brim and crown. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.
Yarn: 90 (100, 120) yards EACH of two colors of Aran weight (CYCA #4) yarn.
Sample made with Clinton Hill Cashmere “Bespoke Worsted” (100% cashmere, 99 yds/50 g) in Dark Navy (Color 1) and Passion Pink (Color 2), 1 ball each for Adult Medium size.
Other Materials: stitch marker, tapestry needle, pom pom (optional).
